Valencia FC are set to be the fourth major football club to step into the world of esports.

After FC Shalke announced their esports team as well as English Premier League team West Ham signing a professional FIFA player, sports teams going digital is becoming all the rage with Valencia FC jumping on the band wagon.

The announcement was made one the 7th of June with the players and team being announced in a press conference at Mestalla  (Valencia’s stadium).

The marketing director of Valencia CF, Peter Draper had this to say at the unveiling team;

“This is a very interesting project and a challenge for Valencia CF to enter a sports sector with such a marked growth. It puts Valencia CF in the vanguard of the sector that is causing most interest throughout Europe”.

With financial troubles plaguing the club for the last decade or so, it is assumed this new team is to tap into the profitable area of esports and bring recognition and interest to the club. The club has partnered with esports streaming giant Twitch but other official team sponsors appear to not be announced as of yet. With such big name clubs entering the esports arena it will be exciting to see which clubs follow next.
