Virtus.pro beats Na'Vi take home $50,000 from Starladder invitaional
Virtus.pro has proven that experience wins out again by beating Na’Vi (Natus Vincere) 2 maps to 1 in the Starladder invitaional, to take home the $50,000 prize money. After comfortably moving through the winners brackets, their veteran team, consisting of a line-up that remains unchanged after 2 years and featuring players who would be considered “old” for esports at 28 years old, played a convincing 3 maps to come out on top.
Na’Vi on the other hand had to fight their way back to the finals, after losing a game to Dobry&Gaming early on and dropping into the loser bracket. But hard work must be recognised and rewarded as they knocked aside teams such as Flipsid3 Tactics, Hellraisers, GODSENT as well as those who put them there in the first place, Dobry&Gaming. All through this, they only dropped one map, which caertainly is a feat in of itself.
The finals were down to 3 maps; Inferno, Train and Cobblestone respectively. Virtus.pro took the early game by storm to snatch a 12-3 lead and, after a hearty Na’vi fight back, took the map 16-11. Na’Vi came out of the gates on map 2 (Train) to win the round 16-8. In the final map it appeared no one team would get the upper hand, but Virtus.pro eventually brought it home to win the map at 16-10.
Virtus.pro will be looking to build upon this fantastic victory in up coming tournaments. With a $1 million purse up for grabs in Cologne and with Virtus.pro gearing up to appear in Eleague for the first time, it will be an exciting few events for them with hopefully many more victories to come.
